Jane, Cara and Meg were always super-close until adult life got in the way. After her husband is nabbed for fraud, Jane - ostracised and out of cash - seeks out her former friends. But she finds life isn’t so rosy for them either. Cara is resigned to an unhappy marriage to a controlling husband, while Meg - dealing with the fallout of infertility - has separated from her spouse and retreated to her Long Island summer house. With flashbacks that illustrate the good and bad times of their friendship, the trio somewhat reluctantly band together as they try to put the pieces back together again. It’s an engaging journey, with a theme of rekindling friendship and reclaiming your life. However, I found the revenge scene rather off-putting (if you substitute a female in the male’s position, you’ll see what I mean).
In Lost Along the Way, by Erin Duffy, a woman needs help from her estranged friends. The summary says: "All through childhood and adolescence, Jane, Cara, and Meg swore their friendship would stand the test of time. Nothing would come between them, they pledged. But once they hit their twenties, life got more complicated and the BFFs began to grow distant. When Jane eloped with her slick, wealthy new boyfriend and didn't invite her oldest friends to the ceremony, the small cracks and fissures in their once rock-solid relationship became a chasm that tore them apart. Ten years later, when her husband is arrested and publically shamed for defrauding his clients, Jane realises her life among the one per cent was a sham.
