It Happened In Venice - Molly Hopkins (2012)
Evie Dexter is happy to be back with her fiance Rob who cheated on her once but promises to never do it again. She is lucky to have a job as a tour guide which takes her to amazing destinations such as Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin and Venice as well as a totally drop-dead gorgeous and rock-solid friend Nikki, who is kind enough to give her a part-time job at his bar but cruel enough to make her work long hours. Rob wants her to quit her jobs, sell her flat and move in with him so they can spend more time together. She is not happy with the idea of giving up as a tour guide but she does want to move in with Rob and take things to another level. Just when she is considering the idea of putting her flat up for sale, she comes face to face with a lie Rob has told her. Devastated, she runs to mega tycoon John Jackson, who's not only her client but also a man who listened to her drunken confession when Rob cheated on her. John not only tries to talk her out of her post-break-up trauma but much to her delight showers her with expensive designer gifts and posh dinners. Evie is not sure if she can ever stop loving Rob and is toying with John's idea of getting him out of her system for good when her friends Tina and Nikki make a plan to keep her busy so that she gets no time to even think about forgiving him. This sequel to It Happened in Paris is packed with drama and beautiful locations. The writing is smart, funny and quirky. The protagonist may not come across as a particularly strong girl but she will still make you laugh, cry and totally love her. (SS)
Tour guide Evie is back in Molly Hopkins' sequel It Happened in Venice. The summary says: "When you're looking for romance, there's only one place to go ... Evie has a handsome fiance who loves her unconditionally, and a fantastic job that takes her to fashionable Dublin, in-vogue Marrakech, cool Amsterdam and romantic Paris. But at home Evie is driven to despair: her fiance hates her job and her flatmate hates her fiance. And when an unexpected event strikes the epicentre of her happiness, Evie is driven to gin and tonic. If she doesn't sort herself out, her liver and her bank manager will hate her. So when she's offered a luxury trip to the sensual city of Venice, with its shifting silver canals and rose and vanilla hued architecture, Evie jumps at the chance. Four days in the city of light and love is exactly what she needs. The sumptuous Grand Hotel, the gondolas, the wine, the Italian men ... But within hours of Evie's arrival, her life is poised to change for ever. Not even Evie herself could've predicted what would happen in Venice ..." It Happened in Venice is out in August. It Happened at Boot Camp is a short story ebook that leads into Molly Hopkins' novel It Happened in Venice. The summary says: "Give up men for 2 weeks? Impossible! But Evie Dexter has challenged her flirtatious, man-addicted best friend Lulu to do just this. And Lulu never shirks a bet. In a flash of deranged inspiration Lulu books them both on a week's stay at an all-female military-style Boot Camp in the boringly beautiful English countryside - surely a guaranteed man-free zone. But with one meagre gym visit between them, a shared passion for white wine, saturated fats and sitting in front of the television - just how long can Evie and Lulu stick it out? This story is sooooo good it has three different endings, but there can only be one winner! You decide." It Happened at Boot Camp will be released in June.
