Swallow (2009)
Sophie Hegel, a timid New York lawyer, has just graduated from Yale Law School and landed her first job. One evening during dinner with her fiance she feels a fist-like ball forming at the base of her throat and she realises she can't swallow. The "fist ball" is a form of the psychological condition Globus Sensate. Having trouble eating, speaking and even breathing, the fist ball is wreaking havoc on her career and relationships. With a very colourful cast of characters including a pornographer, a nude painter, and some charismatic New York lawyers, this book is an interesting read, if you can get through the slow beginning.
