The Green Hills Of Home - Emma Bennet (2013)
Gwen Jones is ecstatic when Black Horse Publishing Company accepts her book, with a three-book deal on the cards. This is the icing on the cake! She is in desperate need of money to secure her family home before it goes to auction. Her mother is in hospital recovering from a stroke, her father already dead. But when she meets John Thatcher, her editor, she has a shock because they have already met recently, under strained circumstances. Although a fizz of mutual attraction is in the air, when Gwen is unable to travel to London because of her family commitments, John is visibly put out, but agrees to travel to her remote farmhouse in Wales to edit her novel. Yes, there's trouble in the valleys but also the development of an understanding and respect that could possibly grow into love. This is a really lovely, tender debut novel. It is very well written, the characters are well drawn and engaging and the story is developed skilfully. I was thoroughly engrossed and read the story in one sitting. (JH)
