The Balance Project (2015)

Lucy Cooper has a great job working for a very powerful woman named Katherine, and a great boyfriend in Nick. Even though she doesn't have her dream job in the digital design world, she is content working as Katherine's assistant for a health and wellness lifestyle company even though she doesn't have the typical work hours that normal people have. And she has been neglecting Nick and her friends because of these crazy hours. Nick is growing impatient with every text from Lucy explaining why she is late yet again for a night out with him. Then Nick proposes and he does not get the response he was hoping for. Lucy's parents had a horrible marriage and subsequent divorce and she thinks that she may not be cut out for marriage. Nick then gives her a list of things she needs to improve on or he will walk. One of those things on that list is her job. Can Lucy give Nick what he wants? Or will she walk away from him so she can be the next high-powered woman in business like Katherine, who has made a name for herself with a book about women having it all. At first I thought this was another Devil Meets Prada scenario, but the author surprised me with her characters. I would have loved to learn more about the other characters who surfaced throughout the book, but all in all it was a good read that examines the concept of work-life balance. (CG)
