This Bird Has Flown (2023)

Jane once had a hit record, covering a song written by Jonesy. He continued on his path to superstardom while she’s back living with her parents after her Hollywood producer boyfriend cheated on her, and the only gig she’s got is performing at a bachelor party.
Her loyal manager, Pippa, encourages Jane to go to London to write some music. On the first-class flight there, she sits next to Oxford literature professor Tom.
This is rather a character-driven story from the singer of 80s girl band the Bangles. There’s a lot of musing about life and love – and not much action (apart from a few Jane Eyre-inspired moments). I nearly exited a few times but the writing was smooth.
There were some hints made about Jane’s earlier interactions with Jonesy that I expected to spin one way but it didn’t (and hence was a bit of a damp squib) so I flicked through the ending without really caring who ended up where. 6/10
