The Last Days of Summer (2016)

Saskia made a terrible mistake and for this reason she hasn’t been at Rosewood, her family home, for the past two years. But now she is back for her grandparents’ golden anniversary party to which she wouldn’t have been invited if it wasn’t for her grandfather, the famous and eccentric writer Nathaniel Drury. The cold reception she receives from most of her family, as well as Edward, her grandfather’s new assistant, means that they know what she did. But she is not the only one with a terrible past and as family secrets come to light, she will have to decide whether to run away once again or to stay and face the consequences. It’s a story of secrets, betrayals, but also forgiveness and loyalty with a touch of supernatural that fits well in the narration. I was completely engrossed in this fascinating novel as Saskia and her family grow and finally take responsibility for their actions. (NP) 7/10
