Set in the Northern Territory in the late 1970s, this story centres around five women who are bought together through a book club. Sybil runs Fairvale cattle station with husband Joe. Kate is from England and is newly married to their son, Ben, who has taken over the station’s responsibilities in his older brother’s absence. Rita is a nurse with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Della is a Texan who has fallen in love with the Australian outback and a stockman, while mother-of-three Sallyanne lives with an abusive husband.
The story has plenty to keep readers interested – from capturing the harsh environment that even many Australians have never seen to the trials and triumphs of the leading ladies. Well deserving of a place on your to-read list.
