At a loose end in life, Maggie has arrived in Bell River to run her best friend’s bookstore while she takes maternity leave. The town owes much to tourist interest in its famous son, author Edward Bell, and the bookstore is only allowed to sell classics - nothing at all that post-dates Bell’s era.
When store investor and Bell’s grandson, Ralph, is not amused by Maggie’s loose retellings of Bell’s history to customers, he moves the author’s writing table and books to the museum instead. Concerned about the resulting fall in the bookstore’s takings, Maggie starts selling modern genre books under the counter and sets up a secret book club.
That was a sweet story about building a community, with some author mystery thrown in. Definitely one for book lovers.
