Set over three decades, this story opens in 2004 with a prologue about a woman waiting on a bench for a man after their pact to meet up on Hampstead Heath. Will he show up?
The story then tracks back to Cat and Sam first meeting in Atlantic City in the early 1980s. Cat’s father is a gambling addict so she works at a funeral parlour to pay their rent. Sam is taking a break from his life as a lawyer in London to travel and maybe follow his dreams of being a musician.
I was totally enthralled by this tale of thwarted love and really enjoyed the timeline since it matched my own adult years. Definitely will be looking out for more from this author.
