Colette left Belle-Ile, a small island off the coast of Brittany, when she was 18 years old and she hasn't been back since. Fourteen years later, she lives in Cornwall, she has a job and a boyfriend, but when she receives a letter informing her that her mother Thea is sick and has little time left, she leaves everything behind to take care of her. But things are not easy on the little French island. The secrets that drove Colette away make the relationship between her and her mother difficult. Mathilde, an old friend of Thea, knows she has little time to ask for Thea's forgiveness for the mistakes she made in the past. And Etienne, a writer who used to spend his holidays on the island, is back to face his past.
I loved the characters who feel authentic and real and I liked the French setting and culture. As each character had a secret to reveal, I found myself completely engrossed in the story and its entertaining plot. (NP)
