One night, Andrew Fitzsimons, a well-respected judge, kills Annie Doyle, a heroin addict and prostitute. To protect their lifestyle and their family, his wife Lydia convinces him to cover up the murder. As Andrew's guilt slowly destroys him, Lydia remains stoic and strong, ready to do anything to protect her family, even if it means hurting other people. Soon, their teenage son Laurence is trapped in their lie and his involvement with Annie's sister, Karen, doesn't make things any easier because Karen knows that as much as her sister was troubled, she would never have disappeared like that.
Full of twists and turns, this is a sharp, dark, and gripping novel that explores the lengths a mother would go to for her child. (NP)
