Dead Rich (2012)
The Spenders are Britain's most famous family. All eyes are on them for their lux lifestyle and gorgeous faces that plaster every tabloid in the nation. So it's not surprising that when 14-year-old Dusty finds her mother, Georgia, dead of an apparent drug overdose, the family is thrust even more into the spotlight. Struggling with the loss of his beloved sister and trying to overcome his drinking problem, Jake Spender is falling apart. His wife, Zelda, is trying to hold it all together (albeit with pills and vodka) while at the same time figuring out what she wants from her marriage. Her parents are not making it easy for her since her mother, a renowned celebrity, is always trying to one-up her beautiful daughter. Georgia's death only puts the cracks in their foundation on full display. Can they get through her funeral and the messy aftermath without falling apart? With witty references such as naming the Spender home God's because it was a former church and shocking acts of sabotage and deceit, this is a novel that will make you question why in the world anyone ever wants to be famous in the first place. There are a lot of characters to keep track of but once you figure out who's who, the story flows freely and develops into something you would never expect. Can the Spenders survive what is only the beginning of their downfall? This is a fun and extremely scandalous read that you don't want to miss! (AS)
