It’s New Year’s Eve and Molly discovers that she’s expecting a baby. Later that night, Molly’s boyfriend, Scott, pops the question, even though he doesn’t yet know there’s a baby on the way. Whether Molly says yes or no will spin her life off in different directions. The book then alternates between a world where she accepts his proposal and another where she sets about becoming a single mum. I found the transitions between the two paths somewhat choppy which sometimes made it difficult to follow on. And with Scott being Scott (the son of a wealthy family), there was absolutely no ambivalence about which option readers would prefer. I would have liked to have fretted about and cared for Molly’s decision more. Still it’s a promising enough debut which would make me read the author again.
