Former morning show TV chef Lizzie Partridge has hit a low point in her life. Her partner Tom has moved on with someone else, her daughter is busy being a lawyer and her mum seems to prefer her brother’s company. And now a magazine has dropped her cooking column. Wondering if anyone would miss her if she disappeared for a while, Lizzie takes off to Wales where she walks into a convention of people who dress up as furry animals, including a rather charming racoon.
This is the sequel to Perfect Meringues (from two decades ago) but easily reads as a stand-alone. Lizzie makes for a brilliantly witty sixty-something character and this book follows her as she finds new love and career opportunities.
