Lucie Yi Is Not a Romantic (2022)

While on secondment in New York, ambitious management consultant Lucie is in a baby store when she realises that she too wants a baby. However, she has recently ended a relationship with her unfaithful fiance, Mark.
So Lucie searches on a co-parenting site for a suitable father to have a child with in a platonic way. She comes to an arrangement with Collin and they relocate to Singapore. Then Mark comes back into the picture.
Lucie being pulled between the two men reminded me of the Daniel/Mark triangle from Bridget Jones – and in this version made up TOO MUCH of the story. Ho is a great writer but this just wasn’t as good a story as the premise promised. 6/10

Last Tang Standing (2020)

Andrea has her eye firmly on the prize of becoming a partner at her Singaporean law firm and doesn’t want her colleague Suresh getting in her way. To ward off constant questions from her extended family about her single status and to prevent her being the last of her generation to marry, she also decides to put effort into dating again.
Andrea is the sort of cute character who worms her way into your heart as she juggles career ambitions, finding a man and living up to cultural expectations. The sharply observed story, told in diary form, has plenty of humour and I’d be keen to see a sequel. 8/10
