Josh has planned the perfect proposal for girlfriend, Jade – an exclusive pod on the London Eye to pop the question. And unable to contain himself, he does just that… before they’ve barely left the ground. When Jade turns him down, he has to spend the next half an hour mulling over the fact that he’s just lost his girlfriend and, as a consequence, his job and home.
Forced to move back in with his parents, Josh concedes that left to his own devices he’s not made the best decisions recently so he decides to leave his future up to fate, relying on the toss of a coin to decide for him. It remains to be seen whether that is the best decision he’ll ever make, or the worst.
There have been some great rom-com authors along the way and James Bailey is definitely one to be added to their number. Genuinely funny, as well as romantic and endearing, this is a superb debut that clearly marks Bailey out as one to watch.
Add in a cast of quirky characters, a couple of European adventures and a rabbit named Jeremy and Richard Curtis should be looking to sign on the dotted line for sure. As it is, this is the perfect uplifting read to start a new year. (JC)
