Here Come the Boys - Milly Johnson (2014)

The last thing on Angie's mind as she and her husband, Gil, set off on a much-needed cruise is her former best friend, Selina, who, twenty years earlier, married the love of Angie's life. When Angie misses the ship after spending time ashore in Malaga, things go from bad to worse when she realises the other passenger stranded with her is Selina. As they spend the next three days working together to get back to the ship, and their respective husbands, they are forced to examine what happened twenty years ago and how things have turned out for each of them since then. This is a really enjoyable and sweet short story focusing on two former friends who get a second chance at friendship and learn if the grass really is greener on the other side of the fence. Milly Johnson has written a 100-page ebook triggered by her own experiences of missing the boat. The summary of Here Come the Boys says: "Angie Silveroak and her husband are taking a much-needed holiday on the cruise ship Mermaidia, so the last person she hopes to bump into on the first night is her one-time best friend Selina and the man Selina stole from her and married twenty years ago. And what she needs even less is to be marooned in Malaga with Selina when both of them manage to miss boarding the ship in port. It will take three days for them to travel across Europe to catch up with the ship again in Croatia. And in the company of each other 24/7, a lot of old baggage is going to be unloaded."
