HANNAH ORENSTEIN

Love at First Like (2019)

Eliza co-owns a Brooklyn jewellery shop with her sister. One night, on learning her ex is getting married, she takes a photo of herself wearing a flashy diamond ring and accidentally posts it to Instagram. Not only do the congratulations pour in, but the shop sees a boost in sales. Deciding that her fake engagement is good for business, Eliza keeps up the ruse. But now she needs to find herself a groom - and fast.
This is a cute story about an online deception which turns into a real-life mess. But the way the author has her heroine deal with the situation and face the consequences of her actions were perhaps missed opportunities for a more satisfying story. 6/10
