As a people pleaser, Jade gets taken for granted by her boss, her boyfriend Adam and her family and is forever agreeing to do things she doesn’t want to do. Case in point: Her sister Lily’s about to be married for the second time and has wangled her way into Jade looking after her kids during the honeymoon, even though it clashes with her job as a set/props artist.
When Jade starts coming across short scripts which mirror a conversation she’s about to have, she wonders if they can help her rewrite the scene and stand up for herself.
Fearne Cotton has written numerous non-fiction titles but this is her debut novel. It totally lives up to its great premise, which foreshadows a situation in which Jade’s about to be a pushover yet again. The side characters who walk all over her are rather infuriating and you’ll be cheering on Jade as she learns to use her voice.
