Paige and Poppie have been friends forever, if you count 16 as forever. As they near the end of high school and plan for university and their next steps, Paige believes she has found the love of her life, Alec. Having fallen for him at first sight, she has been trying to meet with him for a whole year. However, their first meeting ends with Paige covered in cow poo and finding out that Alec is seeing the horrible Ruth.
Paige is a great character - intelligent and self-driven. With each event that brings her closer to Alec ending in disaster, she picks herself up and sets new goals to be successful. Over the years, we see Paige trying to forget Alec in a series of disastrous relationships that leave her hurt but leave the reader in tears and laughter. Following her through a successful career as a supermodel and through all the trials with her dating life, Poppie is right by her side. The endless cycle of Alec being ready and Paige not being ready and vice versa is funny and sad, leaving the reader hoping that just once these two will get it right! Poppie’s get-even tactics are not to be missed. I loved this book and cheered alongside both girls as they grew into women with wonderful lives. I highly recommend this book as a must-read – it’s well written and the characters come alive as you read. (MS)
