Comedian Abi is trying to crack the stand-up circuit. Together with her friends Frank and Cassie, she runs a weekly comedy night called Wisecrackers. However, while Frank’s star is rising, Abi’s still relying on the same old tired routine.
One night, after a bad date, Abi meets music teacher Will at a bar and they start dating. But if Abi thought a well-lubricated audience at a comedy night was a tough crowd, then his young daughters are even harder to impress.
I’ve read a few books centred around the stand-up circuit lately and this has been my favourite, with its relatable main character, family drama, and the highs and lows of seeking laughs in the spotlight.
