After tragically losing her husband and her daughter in a tragic accident, Diane spends a year grieving, ignoring her friends and family, and leaving her Paris bookshop Happy People in the hands of her friend, Felix. To escape the memories which surround her, Diane decides to spend a few months in a small village in Ireland where she rents a cottage by the beach. She just wants to be alone but the friendly villagers and her arrogant neighbour don’t make things easy.
Although I felt for Diane and her loss, she comes out a bit like a moaning and spoiled woman who doesn’t know how to take care of herself. It's an emotional and atmospheric novel - at times predictable - about a woman who has to learn to come to terms with the death of the two people she loved most. (NP)
