The Lonely Hearts Club - Elizabeth Eulberg (2009)
Penny Lane has been in love with her childhood friend Nate forever. However, one misstep on his part changes things and breaks Penny's heart. Fed up with being hurt and tired watching how her friends change when they get into a relationship, Penny vows to swear off guys. Not forever but at least through her senior year of school. So Penny starts up a club called The Lonely Hearts Club. Word spreads like wild fire and she is joined by many girls just like her who don't want to play any more games with affairs of the heart. The club takes on a life of its own, bringing many girls together but upsetting the male population at school. With the group in full swing, Penny is a little disappointed that she can't date because there is a certain guy she really likes. With lots of girl power and many Beatles references, this is a great book for anyone who has decided they don't need a guy, but found just the right one anyway. Light, fun and totally irresistible! Get ready for lots of Beatles' references in Elizabeth Eulberg's debut novel The Lonely Hearts Club. After 16-year-old Illinois schoolgirl Penny Lane Bloom (named by her Beatles fanatical parents after the song) breaks up with her boyfriend, she vows no more dating. She starts up her own anti-dating club but soon more girls want to join in. And so a movement is born: The Lonely Hearts Club (named after the band from Sgt. Pepper). Penny is suddenly known for her non-dating ways . . . which is too bad, because there's this certain boy she can't help but like.
