Mother and Son, by Alison Kervin, is about the tight bond between Georgie and her son Huw. The summary says: "This is the tale of Georgina James and her gorgeous son Huw. It's about the joy and laughter of life as a single mum to a mischievous and reckless 10-year-old. It's about Huw's desperation to get out of school and climb trees and play with his guns, and Georgie's eagerness to keep him in school and out of tree tops while continuing her work as a fashion buyer and attempting to have a social life. It's about the love they have for each other - mother and son. Then, one day, their world is rocked. Huw's father, David, reappears and demands access to the son he's never met. Georgie is devastated. David broke her heart by leaving her when she was pregnant. She's spent years trying to explain to Huw why he's the only little boy in the class who hasn't got a daddy. Huw doesn't want a father now. He thinks daddies are horrible. But he's got one. And David is back because his mother, Alice, is desperately ill with Parkinson's disease and David is keen for his mother to meet her only grandchild. So Georgie has to cope not only with the re-arrival of David, but also Alice - his snooty viscountess mother who never liked Georgie. Now there are two sets of mother and sons... Georgie has to bond with David and Alice, and encourage her son to do so too. She has to learn to forgive and forget for the sake of her son, but that's proving difficult, especially since David is interested in rekindling the relationship with Georgie. She has to cope with David's re-appearance while working as head buyer of a new celebrity fashion range with world-famous footballer Paolo Santini, and dating her new man Jeremy. Things don't always go to plan; her romance with Jeremy, a lovely doctor, looks threatened when she becomes too close to the celebrity footballer, and her role as fashion buyer is threatened by her jealous co-worker Lynne Moss. And wouldn't it just be easier if she got back with rich, successful David? Three men, one woman, one child... But through all the turmoil one thing remains constant - her love for a mouse-loving, plastic gun-obsessed, dirty finger-nailed boy called Huw."
