New York lawyer Veronica Buccino is finding it hard to handle the demands of her career but she has a plan: to marry her fiance John and hopefully quit her hapless job. However, this does not come to fruition because instead of the surprise proposal she anticipates, John has a surprise of his own - he is moving to London, without Veronica. Bereft, Veronica finds herself having dreams of her deceased, beloved grandparents, Salvatore and Antoinette, who appear to offer her guidance by giving her their words of encouragement and wisdom. One suggestion is to undertake a news reporting class. Veronica also signs up for online dating and begins a relationship with Syd, an unlikely suitor. Yet, just as she begins to reconcile herself to her new life, events conspire against her. Will Veronica be able to move on or will the pull of the past be too strong?
This was a funny, light hearted read which details Veronica’s journey after her life is irrevocably changed. At first Veronica is quite self centred but as the book progresses, the reader finds themselves drawn to her plight and rooting for her. It’s a witty, light and pleasant read. (LP)
